New Food For Thought

I don't have major issues with food. But I confess, I do have a few minor ones.

A close friend of mine recommended Geneen Roth's book Women Food and God to me months ago, so when I saw it on the shelf in the library last week, I grabbed it.

I haven't had a chance to dig into the book yet but tonight I did a few minutes of research into the author and was extremely pleased to find a YouTube discussion of the book between Roth and another favourite author of mine, Anne Lamott. I am excited to dig into the book after viewing this teaser clip.

Of course, I am also a bit hesitant. I don't want to uncover any new issues. And I have absolutely no intention of giving up strawberry shortcake during strawberry season.

  1. Dawn - this book was amazing! She says, " It's hidden in plain sight. The open secret. Everyday we are in touch with that which is not broken. But we are so busy paying attention to the million details of day-to-day life that we miss it." After reading the book, I didn't have a desire to give up strawberry shortcake either, but I have perspective. Enjoy it!

  2. Thanks, Cynthia! I started reading it last night and it is reaally very interesting. I like learning new ways of thinking about things too (new perspectives) and I know for certain that I have a mind, body, spirit disconnect at present so finding tools to hel me be more mindful about what I place in my body can't hurt.

  3. I have this book and it is very profound. I didn't think I had any "issues" with food, but uncovered a lot about my relationship with food and how that's changed over the course of my life.

For me the big insight was the the parallel between our relationship with food and our relationship with spirituality; and how what we think about ourselves deep down profoundly affects us spiritually.

  4. I have been slowly reading this book for several weeks now,it's rich with insight and I absolutely love the way she identifies "sensing" as I can so easily get lost in feeling. It's definitely a new awareness for me and resonates with yoga, being in the present moment and my recovery.
